Reviewed: Aristoc Ultra Shine 10 Denier Tights

The online hosiery retailer Slinky Pins sent me a pair of Aristoc Ultra Shine 10 Denier Tights to review.

You can read the Hosiery For Men feature on Slinky Pins and interview with owner Karen Goldstraw.

Material and features

The Aristoc Ultra Shine 10 Denier Tights are attractively packaged in a robust card sleeve. The tights are folded around a piece of card and then enclosed in a cellophane bag.

According to Slinky Pins, these tights are:

"Knitted with high quality yarns...the Ultra Shine range also have additional stretch yarns for comfort and fit, and are finished with a touch of silk to help moisturise the skin during wear."

The tights are made from 86% Nylon and 12% Elastane and 2% Cotton.

The tights looked really quite long in the leg once removed from the packaging - that is always a good sign.

The Aristoc Ultra Shine 10 Denier Tights are completely sheer to waist. The heels are shaped and there is some light reinforcement in the toes.

The brief has a cotton lined gusset. Seams are flat throughout. On each side of the seams in the brief there is a narrow reinforcement strip. The 2.5cm wide waistband is comfortable and provides good support.

These tights seems quite robustly constructed, despite being only 10 denier.

Despite being named Ultra Shine, I found that these tights did not have an overly glossy appearance.

Fit and sizing

The Aristoc Ultra Shine 10 Denier Tights are available in four sizes: Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large.

I tested a pair in Large.

The fit was very good and the tights stretched easily to accommodate my 5'10" height.

The brief was deep, with plenty of room. It stretched comfortably over the waist.

I found these tights to be very soft, light and comfortable on the legs. They cling well but are not too tight.

Glide under trousers was excellent.

Colour range

Slinky Pins currently only stocks the Aristoc Ultra Shine 10 Denier Tights in Nude, the shade that I tested.

Aristoc also manufactures these tights in:

  • Black
  • Vaguely Black
  • Illusion
  • Bare Gold
I found that the Nude shade was almost invisible on the skin when worn, despite the slight shine on the fabric.

Price and availability

The Aristoc Ultra Shine 10 Denier Tights are available at Slinky Pins for £6.00.

Conclusion

The Aristoc Ultra Shine 10 Denier Tights are good value sheer tights. The Large and Extra Large sizes provide good length for taller men, and I feel they would stretch to slightly larger than the 5'10" indicated in the sizing information.

These tights would provide a light additional layer. The excellent glide makes them suitable to wear under trousers.

The price is a reasonable £6.00.

Reviewed: Gipsy 100 Denier Opaque Tights

TheTightSpot.com sent me a pair of Gipsy 100 Denier Luxury Opaque Tights to review. With the cold weather in the UK, I took the opportunity to wear these straight away.

TheTightSpot.com is a UK-based hosiery retailer and aim to provide a good service to men buying tights for themselves.

You can read the Hosiery For Men feature and interview with TheTightSpot.

While writing this review I checked the website for the Gipsy brand. They state that:

'We have been selling hosiery for three generations and the GIPSY brand is now over 30 years old. We bring the latest Italian and International fashions to customers who are looking for style, quality and value and pride ourselves on serving you efficiently and promptly.'

Material and features

The Gipsy 100 Denier Opaque Tights are packaged in a simple card enclosure. You can feel the fabric and see the colour directly.

It was a positive to see the words 'MADE IN ITALY' on the packaging - that is nearly always an indicator of quality.

TheTightSpot.com describe these tights as 'one of our top choices for warm soft tights.' The fabric does indeed feel very soft, and seems quite robust also.

The tights are made from 91% Nylon and 9% Elastane. They have a mainly matt appearance with just a slight shine when caught in the light.

The legs are straight and look quite long when the tights are removed from the packaging. They are sheer to waist apart from a reinforcement band at the top of the thigh, which is actually more or less invisible when worn.

There is a 3cm wide waistband and a gusset. The centre seam in the brief is a conventional one, but is well-made and robust.

Fit and sizing

The Gipsy 100 Denier Opaque Tights are available in four sizes: Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large.

I tested a pair in Extra Large.

The fit was excellent. The tights had a really impressive amount of stretch and length in the leg was particularly good. I didn't need to over-stretch the tights which also meant that the opacity was even throughout.

The brief also had plenty of room and stretched comfortably over my waist.

These tights also cling really well and seem to mould themselves to your figure. I found they stayed in place well without much pulling up needed through the day.

The Gipsy 100 Denier Opaque Tights are wonderfully warm and cosy. I found them extremely comfortable and loved how warm they kept me when walking outside.

Colour range

The Gipsy 100 Denier Opaque Tights are available in a wide range of shades. The Gipsy website indicates that in the Large size the following colours are available

I tested a pair in Midnight, a shade of dark blue.

At TheTightSpot.com, the Extra Large sizes are available in Black, Midnight and Purple.

Price and availability

The Gipsy 100 Denier Opaque Tights are available at TheTightSpot.com for £6.60.

TheTightSpot.com are offering Hosiery For Men readers a special discount of 10% off all hosiery. Use the voucher code H4MEN.

Conclusion
I was really quite impressed with Gipsy 100 Denier Opaque Tights. In terms of cost they occupy a mid-price position, similar to the Charnos 60 Denier Opaque Tights.

The fit was excellent and I liked the consistent opaque coverage. Worn under trousers they are very warm and comfortable, and would be a good choice for cold days.

At a price of just £6.60 they are great value.
