Reviewed: Philippe Matignon Noblesse Brilliant Tights

It was a freezing cold morning yesterday, so I thought it would be a good time to check out and then review the Philippe Matignon Noblesse Brilliant Tights. A pair of these was very kindly sent to me by the Philippe Matignon store in the US.

I have already reviewed several styles of Philippe Matignon tights, at Hosiery For Men.

You can read reviews of the following styles:

Noblesse 50 opaque tights

Dorella semi-opaque tights

Revitalise 70 support tights

Jade 20 denier sheer tights

Oro 40 tights

You can also still read the Hosiery For Men feature on Philippe Matignon and an interview with Maytal Sharifi, Brand Consultant at Revival Brands, the distributors of Philippe Matignon in the US.

Materials and features

The Noblesse Brilliant Tights are described as:

"Glossy opaque 100 den tights with microfibre."

The fabric is 92% polyamide, 7% elastane and 1% cotton.

The yarns contain LYCRA® 3D microfibre, which means that LYCRA® fibre is included in every stitch of every row (in standard LYCRA® hosiery, LYCRA® is incorporated into every second row of knitting). The high LYCRA® fibre content gives fabric exceptional elasticity, so that tights made this way will cling to your legs like a second skin with no sagging or wrinkling.

The tights are completely sheer to waist with flat seams throughout. They have a smooth uniform appearance and provide a very good level of opacity; in fact they are almost completely opaque. These tights have quite a high level of shine.

Legs are straight and and with a sheer toe.

The waistband is 3cm wide, and provides excellent support. There is also a hygienic gusset.

Fit and sizing

The Noblesse Brilliant Tights are available in three sizes 2-S, 3-M and 4- L. I tested the 4-L size.

I found the fit of these tights to be excellent. The fabric is dense and luxurious, and the LYCRA® 3D microfibre ensures that they mould themselves to your legs.

I found the 4-L size sufficient in length for my 5'10" height, but I am not sure they would suit a person much taller.

The brief/panty had plenty of room and stretched up to and slightly over the waist.

The high gloss and shine appearance meant that the Noblesse Brilliant Tights glide particularly well under trousers.

Colour range

The Noblesse Brilliant Tights are available in four shades.

  • Coffee
  • Nero
  • Grigio Grafite
  • Bordeaux Intenso
I tested a pair in the Nero (Black) shade.

Price and availability
The Noblesse Brilliant Tights are priced at US$31.00 at the Philippe Matignon US store. Items can be shipped to international destinations.

Conclusion
The Noblesse Brilliant Tights are top quality opaque tights and are well up to the usual high standard of Philippe Matignon hosiery.

They are very comfortable to wear and perfect for an additional layer in very cold weather. With the LYCRA® 3D microfibre yarn, these tights feel like a second skin.

Reviewed: Philippe Matignon Noblesse 50 Tights

I have already reviewed several styles of Philippe Matignon tights, thanks to Philippe Matignon US providing Hosiery For Men with samples.

You can read reviews of the following Philippe Matignon styles:

Dorella semi-opaque tights

Revitalise 70 support tights

Jade 20 denier sheer tights

Oro 40 tights

You can still read the Hosiery For Men feature on Philippe Matignon and an interview with Maytal Sharifi, Brand Consultant at Revival Brands who are the distributors of Philippe Matignon in the US.

Philippe Matignon US kindly sent me two samples of the Nobless 50 Opaque Tights and here is my review.

Materials and features

The Nobless 50 Opaque Tights are made from 92% polyamide, 7% elastane and 1% cotton.

The microfibre fabric with Lycra 3D is very soft indeed and these tights have a really impressive amount of stretch.

The tights are completely sheer to waist with flat seams throughout.

The waistband is 3cm wide, is comfortable and provides good support.

The sizes from 1-XS to 4-L have a cotton gusset. The 5-XL size that I tested has a rear comfort panel.

Fit and sizing
The Nobless 50 Opaque Tights are available in 1-XS, 2-S, 3-M, 4- L and 5-XL sizes. I tested the 5-XL size.

As mentioned above, the Nobless 50 Opaque Tights have plenty of stretch and I found that the 5-XL size provided a good fit, especially in relation to the length of the leg.

The microfibre yarn with Lycra 3D clings to the body amazingly well.

The brief/panty stretched comfortably over my waist, although it did look as if it had been designed as more of a low waist style. I have to admit that I do prefer the higher waist design that is a feature of the Dorella semi-opaque tights and Jade 20 denier sheer tights.

The tights stayed up very well and were really comfortable under trousers.

Colour range

The Nobless 50 Opaque Tights are available in seven shades according to the Philippe Matignon website.
  • Lana (Wool)
  • Camello (Camel)
  • Coffee
  • Carbone (Coal)
  • Platino (Platinum)
  • Blu (Blue)
  • Nero (Black)
All of the above shades, apart from Blu, are available at the Philippe Matignon US store.

I tested pairs in the Coffee shade, a deep brown colour, and Black.

Price and availability

The Noblesse 50 Opaque Tights are priced at US$32.00 at the Philippe Matignon US store. Items can be shipped to international destinations.

Conclusion
All the Philippe Matignon tights I have tested have been top quality. The Noblesse 50 Opaque Tights are very good quality semi-opaque tights that have been manufactured with the care and attention to detail one sees in all Philippe Matignon hosiery.

The high Lycra 3D content in the fabric means that these tights will mould themselves to your legs whatever shape they are.

They are great for cool autumn days - I really appreciated the insulation they provided in the recent cold spell we are having in the UK.

For semi-opaque tights, my first choice, however, would still be the Dorella 40 tights: they have excellent stretch, a deep panty/brief and a glossy appearance that provides superb gilde under trousers.

Reviewed: Philippe Matignon Oro 40 tights

Philippe Matignon tights are made in Italy and have a deserved reputation for quality.

I have reviewed several Philippe Matignon styles at Hosiery For Men:

Dorella semi-opaque tights

Revitalise 70 support tights

Jade 20 denier sheer tights

You can also read the Hosiery For Men feature on Philippe Matignon and an interview with Maytal Sharifi, Brand Consultant at Revival Brands who are the distributors of Philippe Matignon in the US.

I recently tested the Oro 40 denier semi-opaque tights and can now publish the following review.

Materials and features
The Oro 40 denier semi-opaque tights are semi-opaque tights with a matt appearance. The fabric is 86% polyamide, 12% elastane (Lycra) and 2% cotton. The tights feel quite soft to the touch but not as much as the Dorella and Jade styles I have previously tested. The yarn does, however, feel very durable indeed and I am sure these tights will wear well.

The Oro 40 tights are completely sheer to waist and have flat seams. Toes are sheer without any reinforcement.

The waistband is 4cm wide and provides a very good level of support without being uncomfortable.

The sizes from 1-XS to 4-L have a cotton gusset. The 5-XL size that I tested has a rear comfort panel.

Fit and sizing

The Oro 40 denier semi-opaque tights are available in 2-S, 3-M, 4- L and 5-XL sizes. I tested the 5-XL size.

The 5-XL size was a good fit for my height (5'10"). The tights have plenty of stretch but I am not sure if the fit would be as good for a person who was much taller.

A feature that I like very much in all the Philippe Matignon tights I have tested is the generous depth of brief in the 5-XL size. This is usually important for men buying for themselves, as usually they have more to cover in that area.

However I did find that the Oro 40 tights had a slightly lower-rise waist than the other styles I have worn and reviewed. I would have liked a little more depth here and it's a bit odd that the sizing is slightly less consistent in this respect.

The fit overall was snug and comfortable, and they stayed up well with little adjustment needed.

Colour range
The Oro 40 denier semi-opaque tights are available in six shades according to the Philippe Matignon website.

  • Cognac
  • The
  • Cappuccio
  • Platino
  • Blu
  • Nero

At the Philippe Matignon US store only the Nero (Black) shade is currently available.

I tested a pair in the Nero shade.

Price and availability

The Oro 40 denier semi-opaque tights are priced at US$26.00 at the Philippe Matignon US store. Items can be shipped to international destinations.

Conclusion

These are well-made, durable semi-opaque tights. They are a great choice for autumn and cooler days more generally. The waist and depth of brief is slightly lower than other styles I have reviewed but this may well suit other guys. The provide a comfortable fit and glide well under trousers.

For semi-opaque tights in the Philippe Matignon range, my first choice would be the Dorella 40 tights. They have more stretch, a deep and extremely comfortable brief and are available in cool shades such as Cognac and Playa Nature.

Reviewed: Philippe Matignon Jade 20 Denier Sheer Tights

I recently published a feature on Philippe Matignon at Hosiery For Men. Philippe Matignon is one of the world's leading hosiery brands and has a well-deserved reputation for quality. I first discovered this brand in the hosiery department of the El Corte Inglés department store in Spain. Nearly every branch I have been into has an impressive Philippe Matignon display.

I have previously reviewed the following Philippe Matignon styles:

The Revitalise 70 support tights and the Dorella 40 semi-opaque tights.

I recently tested the Jade 20 Denier Sheer Tights and can now publish the following review.

Materials and features
The Jade 20 Denier Sheer Tights are part of the Philippe Matignon Elegance collection.

They are sheer tights with a shiny, glossy appearance. The fabric is 82% polyamide, 15% lycra and 3% cotton.

The tights are completely sheer to waist and have flat seams.

The waistband is 4cm wide and provides support without digging in.

The Sizes from 1-XS to 4-L have a cotton gusset. The 5-XL size that I tested has a rear comfort panel.

Fit and sizing
The Jade 20 Denier Sheer Tights are available in 1-XS, 2-S, 3-M, 4- L and 5-XL sizes. I tested the 5-XL size.

The 5- XL size was a perfect fit. What I particularly like about Philippe Matignon tights is the good length in the leg and the generous brief. Both are essential features for men buying tights for themselves. The Jade 20 also have an amazing amount of stretch.

The high Lycra content makes for a really snug fit. I found these tights to be extremely comfortable to wear and they needed no adjusting through the day.

The silky, shiny appearance also provides for an excellent glide when worn under trousers.

Colour range

The Jade 20 Denier Sheer Tights are available from the Philippe Matignon US store in six shades:

Cappuccio
Cognac
Nero
Miel
Avorio
Playa Nature

I tested a pair in the Miel shade.

Price and availability
These tights cost US$24.00 from the Philippe Matignon US store. Items can be shipped to international destinations.

Conclusion

I tested the Jade 20 Denier Sheer Tights in warmer weather (although our summer here in the UK is a complete disaster!). They are excellent tights in place of opaques if one needs an thinner additional layer, or just the comfort provided by a sheer tights. They feeling of these tights under trousers is really luxurious, quite sensual even. If you want some very high quality sheer tights these are highly recommended.

Spotlight on Philippe Matignon

I have reviewed two styles of Philippe Matignon tights at Hosiery For Men. Philippe Matignon tights are made in Italy and have a deserved reputation for quality.

I was impressed with the two styles I reviewed:

The Revitalise 70 support tights and the Dorella 40 semi-opaque tights.

I am now pleased to publish a longer feature on Philippe Matignon. I recently interviewed Maytal Sharifi, Brand Consultant at Revival Brands who are the distributors of Philippe Matignon in the US.

Can you provide Hosiery for Men readers with some background information about the Philippe Matignon brand?

Philippe Matignon is an international leader in luxury hosiery designed and manufactured in Italy. Philippe Matignon’s unique aesthetic and extensive collection offers a variety of tights, sheers, and opaques in a range of colors and textures. Built on Italian heritage, PM is distributed in over 2,100 specialty stores, Goldenpoint stores and department chains internationally. Our motto is that we’re bringing the US Market accessible luxury at premier quality.

You recently opened a US-based web store. Has this increased awareness of the Philippe Matignon brand?
Our e-commerce shop has added tremendous brand awareness. Customers that have travelled abroad and bought the brand are now able to purchase it in the states. We’re seeing customers placing their second and third orders which also means they are spreading the gospel!

There has been a huge amount of media coverage of 'mantyhose' (tights and pantyhose for men) in recent months, with some brands, such as Emilio Cavallini, now marketing tights as unisex. Is Philippe Matignon aware of this trend and how are they responding to it?
We are fully aware of the trend and always look to cater to many different demographics. The “mantyhose” consumer has been very loyal to Philippe Matignon and we now are adding more large sizes and shapewear tights to the collection.

Are Philippe Matignon aware that men are purchasing their hosiery? Are they actively aiming to increase men's awareness of their products?

Our team is fully aware of our male consumers, especially after your blog! Since we have recently launched in the US, we are focusing in increasing awareness on all fronts - male and female. Our goals are to have the brand be sold in at least 1,000 boutiques and create national awareness that includes both men and women.

Are there any particular styles that are selling well with male customers?
The All Day 15 and All Day 50 have sold well with male customers. They are both unique shaping tights offering strong compression and yet designed with luxury material for comfort.

Are there any Philippe Matignon tights or pantyhose that you would particularly recommend for men?

The All Day 15 and All Day 50 are fabulous for both men and women! I would also recommend Slimette Charme, our tight designed to suck in the stomach and give your butt a great shape.

What developments can we expect in the future at Philippe Matignon?

We are looking to officially launch lingerie for Spring 2013. Philippe Matignon is currently offering a small sampling of the collection on philippematignon.us to gage the US reaction. So far the response has been great and we look forward to adding another lifestyle component to the brand.

Maytal, thanks for speaking to Hosiery For Men. It's good to hear that the brand is aware of male customers and you are planning to increase the range of larger sizes available.

Reviewed: Philippe Matignon Revitalise 70 support tights

Philippe Matignon is an Italian hosiery manufacturer with, in my opinion, a deserved reputation for quality and durability.

I have previously tested and reviewed the 40 denier semi-opaque Dorella tights.

The USA-based Philippe Matignon store have kindly sent me some more tights to review.

The first pair I have checked out are the Revitalise 70 tights.

Materials and features

The Revitalise 70 tights are semi-sheer 70 denier matt support tights with graduated compression.

The fabric is 77% polyamide, 20% elastane (Lycra) and 3% cotton.

I haven't tested many compression, or support tights, before, but when I have, I have noticed that once removed from the packet they always appear quite short. It was the same with the Revitalise 70, although the amount of stretch is quite impressive.

The 70 denier fabric is not fully opaque. Coverage is even throughout, but leg hair will be visible unless you remove it. The material is double covered Lycra, very soft and smooth with a mainly matt appearance.

These tights are not sheer to waist but have a completely opaque 200 denier brief that looks like ribbed shorts. The brief is deep and reaches comfortably over the waist as well as providing additional support for the upper thigh area. The brief has a 5cm wide comfortable waistband with ribs similar to the brief. Seams are flat and well-constructed.

The 5-XL size that I tested has a rear comfort panel. Sizes S, M and L have a hygienic gusset.

The feet are shaped and with reinforced toes.

Overall the Revitalise 70 are superbly constructed, with great attention to detail. I particularly liked the wide waistband (if only all tights had one as well made) and the depth of the brief.

Fit and sizing
The Revitalise 70 tights are available in 2- S, 3-M, 4-L and  5-XL sizes. I tested the 5-XL size.

The tights took some time to get on - the fabric is tight and one can feel the compression effect immediately. I needed to stretch them over my feet, then slowly and carefully stretch the tights up the legs. With a bit of further positioning and stretching the tights were on. And once on they really do stay on, clinging tightly like a second skin. The brief is quite tight also.

I was amazed at the fit and comfort they provided. The compression effect is noticeable and your are conscious that you are wearing these tights. The effect is like a gentle massage of the legs and they definitely do keep you feeling energised and comfortable. I tested the Revitalise 70 twice and they did make a difference, especially when sitting at my desk for long periods.

I am not sure if the 5-XL would fit someone much taller than my 5'10". Philippe Matignon tights usually come up quite large in the 5-XL size, but in this case perhaps slightly less so.

These tights glide exceptionally well under jeans or trousers with no snagging at all.

Colour range
The Revitalise 70 tights are available from the Philippe Matignon US store in two colours: Nero (Black) and Playa Nature (Tan/Beige). The tights may also be available from other retailers in two additional shades: The and Cappuccio.

I tested a pair in the Playa Nature shade, which is what is shown above.

Price and availability

These tights cost US$37.00 from the Philippe Matignon US store. Items can be shipped to international destinations.

There is also a Revitalise 40 denier style available

Conclusion

After testing the Revitalise 70 tights I am now pretty much convinced of the benefits of support/compression hosiery. They were very comfortable tights indeed, and I didn't want to take them off at the end of the day. These would be very good tights for men who need leg support. Although they are not medical grade support hosiery, the compression is on the firm side. They would provide support for people who are on their feet for long periods or who sit while working.

Reviewed: Philippe Matignon 'Dorella' semi-opaque tights

I have blogged before about the excellent quality tights made by Philippe Matignon. What you can be sure of when buying Philippe Matignon tights is that the quality will be excellent and you will be getting a top class product.

As a man buying tights for himself I am always looking for a product that fits well, is durable and comfortable. I discovered Philippe Matignon tights when visiting Spain where they are always stocked in the El Corte Inglés chain of department stores.

Philippe Matignon now have an online store and they kindly sent me a pair of Dorella 40 tights for review.

Materials and features

According to the packaging, these are '40 denier semi-opaque pantyhose'. They are made from 88% Polyamide, 9% Elastane and 3% Cotton.

The tights have a fully shaped leg and are sheer to waist. They have flat seams and a slightly reinforced toe.

The appearance is glossy but not excessively so. The fabric used is very high quality; soft but also strong and durable. These tights, like all those made by Philippe Matignon, will last and last.

Fit and sizing
The tights come in five sizes: 1, 2, 3, 4 and XL which has a rear panel.

I tested the XL size in Cognac, a warm tan colour.

The fit was superb: excellent length and a generous brief. I have worn these tights on three occasions now and was really impressed with how comfortable they are. The high Lycra content means that they cling well to the legs and hardly need any pulling up during the day. The gloss appearance also provides very good glide under trousers.

Colour range
These tights are available Cognac, Nero and Playa Nature.

Price and availability
These tights cost US$21.00 from the online store that now ships internationally.

Hosiery for Men has been offered a special discount code which I can share with you. To get an amazing 25% discount, use the code 'Press25' when purchasing through the Philippe Matignon online store.

Conclusion
I was very impressed with these tights and they met all of my requirements. They are perfect for cool days, when it is not so cold that one needs thicker opaque tights.

Tights shopping in Spain

I am a frequent visitor to Spain and have always been impressed with the hosiery section of the leading department store in Spain - El Corte Inglés. The branch in the photo is the one in Seville. Most Spanish cities of any size have a branch, or even several branches.

The selection of tights at El Corte Inglés is really impressive and puts most British department stores to shame. The focus is mainly on premium European brands, such as Wolford. What I particularly like is that they stock a great range of Italian-made tights, especially the Filodoro and Philipe Matignon brands.

Both brands make tights in an excellent and accurate range of sizes, which is particularly important for male buyers. The 5 - XL size is the one I go for and the fit is always perfect. The yarns used are always top quality and I find that the tights wear extremely well and last for ages if looked after.

I particularly like the range of 30-40 denier tights made by Filodoro and Philipe Matignon. These are not as thick as opaques but also not very sheer and are perfect for autumn weather. Many of the tights are also available in a matt finish, which I also like as it is not so obvious that I am wearing tights, not that I am particularly worried about that.

On a recent trip I bought a pair of the Galerie 40 tights in the dark brown cappuccio colour. They are matt, sheer to waist and have a 9% Lycra content. The fit is excellent and they give an energising feeling to the legs. The price was €9.80 which I thought was good value given the impressive quality.

I haven't seen this brand of tights on sale anywhere in the UK, so I guess for now I will have to keep stocking up when I travel to Spain.

Finally, the staff at El Corte Inglés are always really helpful and always offer assistance if you are browsing for tights. They seem fine about men buying tights for themselves and often recommend particular brands and styles.
